GAIBANDHA, Feb 17: Local people have to walk through two railway bridges in Badiyakhali area under Sadar upazila of the district amid a risk of fatal accident to go to their destinations every day.
They have demanded construction of a new road alongside the railway bridges located midway between Badiyakhali to Trimohoni railway station.
About one and a half kilometres away from the station, Gajra bridge located on the west side of Rifaitpur coconut floor at Darar Bata and another bridge located near Miapara on its southern side have become very dangerous for public movement.
As there is no alternative road, about 1,000 families of some villages, including Sukhandighi, Dakkhin Shimultari, Rifaitpur and Narikeltala, go through the rail bridges, risking their lives.
The students of Badiyakhali Station Alim Madrasah, Badiyakhali High School and Rahima Khatun Siddiqui Memorial Girls High School, face risk of accident while crossing the railway bridges.
Fourteen trains from Santahar in Bogura to Lalmonirhat run on the two bridges.
Bayezid Bostami, a resident of the area, told the FE, "We, especially our schoolchildren, have been moving on this bridge amid a risk."
It has become more risky. Therefore, it is very important for the local people to construct an alternative road alongside the bridges.
Mamunur Rashid, assistant executive engineer at Lalmonirhat Division of Bangladesh Railway, said, "We have no plan to construct a road alongside the bridges."
