Jamaat leader Mir Quasem Ali has been condemned to death by the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT)-2. A three-member panel of judges of the ICT-2, led by Justice Obaidul Hasan, pronounced the verdict on Sunday. Twelve out of 14 charges have been proved against the Jamaat-e-Islami central committee member, the ICT-2 judges announced while delivering the verdict around 11:30am. The presiding judge of the ICT-2 on Thursday fixed the date for pronouncement of the judgment. The other members of the panel are Justice Md Mojibur Rahman Miya and Justice Md Shahinur Islam. It is the 11th verdict given by the International Crimes Tribunal-1 and the ICT-2 against war crimes accused after trials in cases field over crimes against humanity committed during the Liberation War. Quasem Ali faced 12 out of 14 counts of charges of crimes against humanity he committed during the 9-month war. The prosecution could not place evidence on two charges due to failure of bringing its witnesses before the tribunal, according to a news agency.
