Ganajagaran factions’ face-off at Shahbagh

Three factions of Ganajagaran Mancha held separate rallies at Shahbagh on Friday, protesting Supreme Court’s verdict commuting war criminal Delwar Hossain Sayeede’s death sentence to imprisonment till death. The two factions -- one led by Imran H Sarkar and another by Kamal Pasha Chowdhury -- began their rallies within 20 yards of each other in front of the main gate of the National Museum around 4pm. About half an hour later, another faction, led by left student organisations, began their rally at the same spot. At one stage, leaders of Imran H Sarker’s faction and Kamal Pasha’s began to exchange heated arguments against each other. Later, police intervened and brought the situation under control, according to a news agency.
