A special court in the city Thursday sentenced former chief conservator of forest Osman Gani to 12 years' rigorous imprisonment for amassing wealth beyond his known sources of income and concealing information in the wealth statement, reports BSS.

His wife, Mohsenara Gani, was jailed for three years for helping him accumulate wealth illegally.

Judge AKM Arifur Rahman handed down the verdict after examining the witnesses and relevant documents in presence of principal accused Gani. His wife was absconding since the case was lodged.

The Anti-corruption Commission (ACC) lodged the case against them with Uttara thana on July 26 last year.

The court fined Gani Tk 1.0 million and failing to pay it, he would suffer rigorous imprisonment for one more year.
