Gapexpo, Garmentech, yarn, fabric fairs receive $20m spot orders

FE Report | Friday, 14 March 2014

The Gapexpo 2014, Garmentech, yarn and fabric sourcing fairs held recently got spot orders and enquiries for apparel accessories, packaging and other products worth around US$ 20 million from local and foreign buyers.
"We have received satisfactory response from the buyers. Most of the spot orders have come from local buyers," Bangladesh Garments Accessories and Packaging Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGAPMEA) President Rafez Alam Chowdhury told the FE.
"And a large number of enquiries have come from foreign buyers and we are hopeful that they will be satisfied with our products," he said.
The four-day-long Garment Accessories and Packaging Exposition (Gapexpo), Garmentech, yarn and fabric sourcing fairs started on January 13 and concluded on January 16 at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre in the city.
BGAPMEA, with Zakaria Trade and Fair International and ASK Trade and Exhibition Pvt Ltd jointly organised these expos.
The BGAPMEA president said: "Participants from 25 countries including Germany, India, China, Pakistan, Taiwan, Australia and UAE displayed their products in the shows."
Garment manufacturing technology, yarn, fabrics and garment accessories and packaging were displayed under one roof for the benefit of the readymade garment (RMG) sector at 500 stalls.
"But a number of the participants faced some difficulty as there were the Police Week programme and another government programme during the fair. On the first day, some foreign stalls had to be closed and on another day we had to start the fair two hours later," he said.
Mr Chowdhury also said, "These sorts of incidents hamper the environment of the fair as well as tarnish the image of Bangladesh among the foreigners. So the venue management should be pro-exhibition."
