Gardening on house rooftops getting popular in Narsingdi

NARSINGDI, Aug 16 (BSS): Gardening on house rooftops in both summer and winter seasons in the district has been gaining popularity with production of different kinds of flowers, vegetables and fruits.
Gardening lover people in the district are mostly engaged in this venture by making the best use of spaces around their house rooftops over the last couple of years.
Varieties of vegetables, fruits and flowers are seen producing on their house rooftops round the year.
Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) has been providing necessary cooperation, training and required inputs to the gardeners to grow flowers, vegetables and fruits for their own consumption and extra earning.
The DAE is also providing quality seeds and plants to the growers producing mainly tomato, bottle gourd, brinjal, chilies,lemon, amrapoli and dalim.
One Sofia Begum, wife of Shohidul Islam of Narsingdi municipal area, has been farming vegetables and fruits like tomato, bean, chillies , amrapoli ,dalim and lemon on their three storied building rooftops during the last seven years.
She expressed her satisfaction that they were getting an excellent production of fresh and poison free vegetables and fruits from their garden.
Like Sofia, Rehana Aktar of West Kadapara, Jakia Begum of Satirpara area, lily Begum of Velanagor area of Narsingdi Sadar upazila, Abdus Samad of Shibpur upazila and Porimal Roy of Polash upazila narrated their success stories in farming vegetables, fruits and flowers on their house rooftops.
