Garlic production target fixed in Nilphamari

NILPHAMARI, Dec 12: Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) has fixed a target of producing 5,952 tonnes of garlic is 9,92 hectares of land during the current Robi season of 2010-2011 in Nilphamari district.
Sources said the farmers have already completed the farming process of the essential spice crop. DAE has fixed the yield rate at 6 tonnes per hectare this season on an average throughout the six Upazilas of the district.
DAE, BADC, RAKUB, NGO's and several commercial banks have taken adequate steps to make the garlic farming programme successful in this season. The steps include distribution of quality seeds, disbursement of easy term agriculture loans at minimum interest rates, providing training, technical assistance and inputs under various programmes.
Sources added the farmers are inclining towards the cultivation of this variety of spice as it's price has gone up to 8,000 taka per 40Kg in this year.
