Garment worker dies, 100 fall sick after drinking water

A garment worker died and 100 others fell sick after drinking water supplied by the authorities of the readymade garment (RMG) unit in Gazipur city on Saturday. The dead is Shahida. The sick workers were admitted to different local hospitals and clinics. Local people, hospital sources and witnesses said workers of Mass Trade International Garments Factory, situated on Bypass in Bhogra drank water from a hydrant installed at the factory by its management recently. Following intake of the water from the tap, the workers first started vomiting and then many of them became senseless. Witnesses said the victims felt severe abdominal pain after drinking the supply water and at one stage they started vomiting. Then they fainted one after another in factory. The sick workers were taken to different local hospitals and clinics. Conditions of many workers were stated to be critical. Following the incident, the authorities of Mass Trade International declared the factory closed for the day, according to a news agency.
