Garment workers blockade highway

Garment workers blockaded the Dhaka-Tangail Highway in Gazipur for one and a half hours Monday morning protesting the killing of a fellow worker in a road accident. The deceased was identified as Hashu (24), son of Hafezuddin of Baghra village of Mymensingh and worker of local Diganta Sweater Factory. Witnesses said Hashu was crushed under the wheels of a truck in Naojor area when he was crossing the road at about 7:30am. As the news spread, workers of the garment factory took to the street and set the killer truck ablaze, blockading the highway. — UNB
