Garment workers demand wages, Eid bonus by Nov 4

FE Report Garment workers have demanded payment of Eid bonus and due wages by November 4 to avert any untoward incident. They called upon the garment factory owners to pay all their dues including the current month's salary and overtime allowances by November 04. For that a views exchange meeting on "Labour Situation of RMG Sector" will be held today (Sunday) at BGMEA head office in city. State Minister of Labour and Employment Begum Munnujan Sufian MP will attend the meeting as the chief guest. Chairman of the standing committee on Ministry of Labour and Employment Israfil Alam MP and labour leaders will also attend the meeting to be chaired by president of Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) Shafiul Islam Mohiuddin. "Every year the garment workers go on rampage for realising their wage and Eid bonus. This year we do not want repetition of such incidents," president of National Garment Workers' Federation (NGWF) Amirul Haque Amin told the FE. He said the federation has opened an emergency cell at its Topkhana Road office to listen to any complaints from both the workers and the owners during the Eid-ul-Azha. The apparel workers will not be able to celebrate Eid-ul-Azha if they are not paid their wages for October and the festival allowance before Eid, said Mr Amin. The apparel sector alone accounts for 79 per cent of the total export earnings but the interest of workers in the sector has always been ignored, he added. 9 Intel's Eid promotion campaign ends INTEL ended its Eid promotion campaign titled "Eid Happiness Continues!", according to a press release.
