FE Report
National Garments Workers Federation has demanded of the government to start rationing system for garment workers immediately as they get the lowest wage among all industry workers.
Federation leaders made this demand from a garment workers' human chain organised on the occasion of World Food Day-2010 at Muktangon in the city Saturday.
The garment workers in our country are the lowest wage earners among all other industry workers. So, a full rationing system for them is needed to ease their distress, the leaders said.
Recently the government announced a new wage structure for the employees of the RMG industry. But the speakers claimed that it was insufficient and asked for the start of the rationing system.
The government gave the promise of the rationing system many times which was never fulfilled. Now we want implementation of the promise for three million workers who are working to earn 77 per cent of the total export earnings, the speakers said.
Federation president Amirul Haque Amin was the chief guest at the human chain. Other central leaders of the federation were also present.
