Garment workers threaten to launch movement

Garment Workers Trade Union Monday threatened to launch movement against owners of apparel factories if their wages, arrears and Eid bonuses are not disbursed by September 16.
The demand was made from a number of meetings and human chain at different parts of Dhaka including Uttara, Tejgoan and Gazipur.
Garment Workers Trade Union president Idris Ali said, "if the garment owners failed to meet our demand we will go for worker's awareness programme like holding rallies, demonstration and later we will go for strike."
The garment workers union announced a weeklong programme after the BGMEA president made an instigating speech saying that they could not pay the wages and bonuses without government assistance.
