Gas connection and load shedding problem in Adamjee EPZ
Thursday, 3 April 2014
We have hundred per cent export-oriented factories in the Admajee Export Processing Zone. The Bangladesh government established special export processing zones to stimulate rapid economic growth of the country, particularly through industrialisation. The government has adopted an 'Open Door Policy' to attract big foreign investment to Bangladesh. Many foreign investors are eager to invest but they do not get proper support from the authorities. It was expected and assured that the EPZ investors would get priority in every service but in reality it is not so. Frequent power disruption is putting great pressure on the factories situated at Adamjee EPZ. Despite repeated request to the authorities concerned no tangible steps have yet been taken to solve the problems. It discourages the investors to reinvest and also scaring away new potential investment which is hurting our economy. For example, we have applied to Titas Gas for gas connection.
Despite the demand note being deposited four years ago, we are yet to get our much-needed gas connection. Without gas connection for generator, our factory is unable to meet the demand of foreign buyers. It is hurting production and also ruining our reputation. The government should look into the matter so that existing factories can be smoothly operated and it will encourage others to invest here.
