Bangladesh CNG Filling Station & Conversion Workshop Owners' Association (BCFSCWA) in a press conference Monday demanded immediate gas connection to 57 "approved by proper authority but deprived of gas connection" filling stations across the country. The leaders of the association claimed new connections would not worsen the gas crisis as CNG stations are not consumer rather they are the distributors. They also said the present number of CNG vehicles, the customer of filling stations, would not go up for the new gas connections-the number of customers and amount of profit of the present stations would decline only. "And we the present CNG station owners are ready to share this profits and customers for the sake of our fellow brothers," said Zakir Hossain Nayon, general-secretary of the association. He read out a written speech in the press conference at the National Press Club in the city organised to inform their miseries to the newsmen. Mr Nayon said since 2007, they have invested around Tk 3 billion in these CNG stations from their own and bank money. And they made this huge investment only after getting assurance of gas supply from the government and gas company. But misunderstandings about two circulars issued by Petrobangla and Energy and Mineral Resources Division (EMRD) under Ministry for Power, Energy & Mineral Resources in July 2009 working as barrier for new gas connections. The gas companies are now showing those circulars as excuse for not giving connections despite the circulars clearly stated "stop giving new gas connections to new areas" "except for given approvals" until the gas production reaches 2200 cft per day. The leader also alleged in spite of embargo in the circulars, Titas gave 691 connections in industrial and commercial units. Vice president of the association Syed Sadat Ahmed, members Md. Jahangir Akram, Prabir Kumar Debnath, and many others from across the country were present at the press conference.
