Gas cylinder blast kills two in Cox’s Bazar

COX'S BAZAR, May 9: At least two persons were killed and six others injured seriously, as the pipe of a gas cylinder at a dwelling house burst in Teknaf upazila of the district on Wednesday.
The deceased were identified as Elema Khatun (85) and Ruma Akter (4).
According to witnesses and police sources, an LP gas cylinder pipe at the house of one Abdus Shukkur of Kanjor Para village burst with a bang, when women were cooking food on the gas burner on Wednesday morning. After the pipe blast the house caught fire. The fire engulfed immediately two more nearby houses.
Elderly woman Elema Khatun died on the spot.
Family sources said seriously-burnt four-year-old baby Ruma Akter succumbed to her injury at Chittagong Medical College Hospital in the afternoon.
Seriously injured Khairul Bashar (35), Badiuzzaman (30), Fatema Khatun (27), Bushra Akter (10), Runa Akter (3) and Sumaya Akter (11) were admitted to the burn unit at the hospital a critical condition. On information, fire fighters from the Teknaf fire service station rushed to the spot and brought the fire under control.
