Gas, power gets pricier

The government has hiked power prices by 2.97 per cent and gas prices by 26.29 per cent.
Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission Chairman AR Khan announced the hikes at a press conference at the commission’s office at Karwan Bazar on Thursday.
The new rates will come into effect on September 1, a news agency report confirmed.
Consumers will have to pay Tk600 for a single burner and Tk650 for a double burner in households.
The BERC earlier had increased gas prices for all categories of consumers with effect from August 1, 2009.
The gas price was again increased for only compressed natural gas (CNG) by 66.67 percent, from Tk18 to Tk23 a cubic metre, in 2011.
