Gas scarcity becomes national problem: Amu

CHITTAGONG, Mar 5 (BSS): Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu Wednesday said that gas crisis has become a national problem as there is huge gap between its generation and demand.
The minister said production in fertiliser factories under the ministry has been forced to shut down for lack of adequate gas supply.
The Minister admitted this while addressing a seminar as the chief guest on "Creation of Intellectual Property and its Commercialization" held at city hotel here Wednesday noon.
Department of Patents, Designs and Trademarks under the Ministry of Industries organized the function.
Speaking on the occasion Industries minister said the electricity demand has increased day by day as the population is increasing in the country which resulted the government to discourage in establishing gas-based industries in the country.
He said the government has enacted an industrial law to protect Intellectual Property as inventions Literary and artistic works, and symbol, names used in commercial purpose as owner.
The law declared to state patronization to protect the intellectual creation, he added.
He stressed implementation the new law properly as there was no industrial law in the country past.
He called upon all to create mass awareness to protect intellectual property in the country.
Chittagong University Prof Shiffat Sharmin presented the key-note paper in the seminar.
President of Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industries Mahbubul Alam addressed the function as the special guest while Industries Secretary Mohammad Mainuddin Abdullah in the chair.
