Gazipur dyeing factory fined

The Department of Environment (DoE) on Wednesday fined a dyeing factory at Sripur Upazila in Gazipur district for polluting Nablong Khal (a canal). After a hearing at the DoE headquarters in Dhaka, its director (monitoring and enforcement) Mohammad Alamgir slapped a fine of Tk 25,000 on Crown Wool Wear Dyeing Ltd for causing pollution through discharging untreated effluent into the canal at Sripur. Alamgir also ordered the authorities of the factory to set up an effluent treatment plant on its compound within next three months, according to a news agency.
