A clash between two groups of the ruling party supporters at a programme in Gazipur's Kaliakoir Upazila has left an Awami Juba League leader dead, reports bdnews24.com.
The memorial event on Friday was organised to commemorate the National Mourning Day and the Aug 21 grenade attack victims.
The deceased, Md Rafiqul Islam, was former president of the Awami League youth front's Upazila unit.
The incident took place around 5:00 pm at the Bangabandhu College ground, said Kaliakoir Police Station OC Md Omar Faruq.
He said the clash broke out minutes after Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Huq and the party's Gazipur metropolitan unit chief Ajmat Ullah had left the stage erected for the event.
Islam, badly injured from severe beating by the rivals, died on way to hospital, said the police officer.
