Gazipur Juvenile Correction Centre supervisor suspended

The supervisor of Gazipur Juvenile Correction Center was suspended following some adolescents’ protest by self-gashing against its mismanagement. Additional deputy commissioner Shahnewaz Dilruba Khan said the Social Services Department suspended Anwarul Karim. acting supervisor (supervisor-in-charge) of the correction center, on Thursday night. Earlier in the day, the High Court asked the authorities concerned to form a committee to investigate the reported mismanagement of Gazipur Juvenile Correction Centre (GJCC). The HC also issued rule suo moto asking the GJCC authorities to explain why its mismanagement should not be declared illegal and how the adolescents could take cough syrup in police custody. Aged between 14 and 18, the boys gashed their foreheads, arms and wrists on Tuesday night to protest torture on them allegedly by the supervisor-in-charge. The injured were rushed to Tongi Government Hospital where their wounds were stitched up. They are now at the centre, according to UNB.
