Gazprom cleared to drill five wells in gas fields

The cabinet committee on public purchase on Wednesday approved a proposal allowing the Russian state-backed energy giant Gazprom International Investment B.V to drill five new gas wells.
"The purchase committee approved the proposal of digging new five wells at different gas fields by Gazprom. It will cost US $ 90 million," additional secretary of the cabinet division Mostafizur Rahman briefed journalists after the meetings.
The other projects approved by the committee included construction of the Khulna-Mongla Port rail line at a cost of Tk 12.38 billion. The rail line project includes its feasibility study.
Finance Minister AMA Muhith presided over the meeting. Agriculture Minister Begum Matia Chowdhury and Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed, among others, were present.
The other projects the committee approved are selection of consultant for conducting detailed design and tendering services and construction and supervision services for rehabilitation of Kulaura-Shabazpur section of Bangladesh railway at a cost of Tk 230 million and setting up solar photovoltaic 7.40 megawatts (MWs) power plant at Kaptai involving a cost of Tk 919 million and consultancy for Bibiyana gas-based combined cycle power generation plant at a cost of Tk 110 million.
The other projects are construction of a pump station at Rahimpur under 'upper kushiara' project of Bangladesh Water Development Board at a cost of Tk 450 million, import of Muriate of Potash (MOP) fertiliser as per the deal between Canadian Commercial Corporation (CCC) and Bangladesh Agriculture Development Corporation (BADC) at a cost of more than Tk 5.65 billion, printing, distribution and supply of textbooks for Ebtadia, Dhakil, and Dhakil (vocational) level at a cost of more than Tk 825 million and for Eastern Bangladesh Bridge Improvement Project (EBBIP) at a cost over Tk 525 million.
