Gender-sensitive curricula in edn institutions emphasised

Speakers at a discussion underscored the need for introducing a gender-sensitive curriculum from primary level to higher secondary level.
They also said reducing all kinds of gender insensitive words from the existing curriculum is a must.
They made the observations at the discussion meeting Thursday organised by Bangladesh Nari Progati Sangha (BNPS) in the city.
Ajay Roy, convener of University Grants Commission (UGC), presided over the meeting.
Shamol Kanti Ghose, director general of Primary Education Department, said, such a curriculum must be implemented otherwise the women would lose their dignity.
Tahera Aktar Jahan, a member of National Curriculam and Text book Board (NCTB), said by 2012 all courses of class VI to class IX should include gender-equality subjects.
Rokeya Kabir, excutive director of BNPS, Md Mostafa Kamal-uddin Ahmed, chairman of NCTB, Gitiara Nasrin, chairman of Journalism Department of DU, Anawara Sayed Haque, psychologist, among others, participate in the discussion.
