German medical assistance for disabled kids, women likely

A three-member German team arrived in the city Sunday to explore the possibility of extending medical aid to disabled children and women in Bangladesh, especially in the area of plastic and reconstructive surgery of western standard, reports BSS. During their eight-day stay in Bangladesh, the German team will hold discussions with various government agencies as well as private entrepreneurs in healthcare sector to find ways and means for collaborative initiatives to reach the objectives of their mission in Bangladesh. Besides extending medical aid, they also have a plan to train Bangladeshi doctors in various disciplines in foreign hospitals, especially in Germany and Hungary. The delegation members are Dr Med Gergely Pataki and Dr Christian Schmitz, both experts in plastic and aesthetic surgery, and Engineer Hasnar Mia of Huesges Group in Germany and coordinator of the proposed project. After arrival in the city, the delegation held a meeting with Prime Minister's Health Adviser Prof Dr Syed Modasser Ali at his residence Sunday evening and exchanged views on the objectives of their mission. Dr Modasser told the delegation members that health and medicare are the most potential sectors in Bangladesh for foreign investment and collaboration. While pointing out that many potential entrepreneurs are coming to invest in health sector in Bangladesh, the PM's health adviser said that investments in this sector in a big way would not only create scope for better treatment but also help develop professional standard in the country. While assuring the delegation of best help from his side, the adviser appreciated their initiatives saying, "It's a good idea and that is perfectly achievable." The delegation members will hold talks with representatives of various medical organisations including Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU), Bangladesh Medical Council, International Medical College and Hospital, Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) and other related organisations and institutions.
