Germany to help set up EPZ

Germany showed interest to set up an export processing zone (EPZ) at a suitable place in Bangladesh.
Commerce Minister Faruk Khan informed the reporters after a meeting with a 10 member German delegation led by Martin Biesel, state secretary of the Federal Foreign Office of Germany at his office on Thursday.
"The government will provide necessary support for setting up the proposed EPZ," the minister said adding that Bangladesh has a notion of setting up EPZs, as a Korean EPZ has already been set up in the country.
Germany is keen to invest in Bangladesh due to its prevailing economic and political environment is now in favour of investment, he said.
"We request the German delegation to invest in the country's renewable energy, waste management and help improve the working condition of labours," Mr Faruk said.
Germany is the second biggest export destination of Bangladesh.
Bangladesh exported products worth $ 2187.35 million and imported $ 469.55 million in 2009-10 fiscal year.
