CHITTAGONG, Dec 31: Having gas and power connections for setting up industries has become very difficult in Chittagong region. This has dampened the zeal of entrepreneurs in establishing industries.
In getting gas connection, concerned entrepreneurs have to overcome at least 20 stages taking a long time even up to a year.
According to reliable sources, sanction of the Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industries Corporation (BSCIC) or the Board of Investment (BOI) is required first. Then comes the clearance of the Department of Environment (DoE) which takes two to three months' time.
Gas and power are essential for setting up industries. At the initial stage, sanctioning letter of the BSCIC or the BOI, document of land, clearance of DoE, articles of association in case of limited company, bank solvency certificate and trade licence are required to be submitted along with the prescribed application of the Bakhrabad Gas System Limited (BGSL) for getting gas connection to a newly established industrial concern.
Normally, two months' time is spent if other things remain normal. An entrepreneur of the Kalurghat industrial area in this connection, has told this correspondent that at least two months' time is needed for getting the clearance of DoE and, later, another two months' time is wasted in getting power connection. Still, getting gas connection from BGSL remains an uncertainty.
