Grameen Healthcare Trust (GHT), a sister company of Grameen Bank, will establish a modern and advanced technology-equipped medical institution in Bangladesh to provide healthcare services especially to the people deprived of primary healthcare.
Nobel Peace Prize winner Dr. Mohammad Yunus said this at a press conference on "A Strategic Partnership Between Grameen Health Trust and GE Healthcare" at Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Centre in the city on Monday.
Grameen Healthcare Trust has signed an agreement with UK-based GE Healthcare to jointly evaluate ways to improve Grameen Healthcare Trust's existing healthcare delivery systems and primary care clinics in rural areas of Bangladesh, he said.
Under the contract, the two organizations will work together to conduct a programme titled "Social Business Healthcare Delivery Models" in Bangladesh. At the end of an initial period, they will see whether these social business model can be replicated in other countries to address the needs of 4.0 billion people, whose income is less that US 3.0 dollars a day, the Nobel laureate said.
The two organisations will focus on different areas, such as, primary health promotion and disease prevention, evaluation of training, workflow and other capabilities that would be needed for full deployment of high-tech equipment in rural Bangladesh.
