Saturday, 25 October 2014

The body of Ghulam Azam is being carried to Baitul Mukarram National Mosque in the city’s Paltan area from his Moghbazar home on Saturday afternoon. The Namaj-e-Janaza of the former Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer will be held at Baitul Mukarram after Zohr prayers. Azam’s son Abdullahil Aman Azmi, a former military officer, said he will lead his father’s Namaj-e-janaza (funeral prayers) at the Baitul MukKaram National Mosque after the Zohr prayers today. Later he will be buried at his family graveyard at Moghbazar. Azam died on Thursday at the age of 92. He was serving a 90 year prison sentence awarded to him for his 'crimes against humanity' during the 1971 Liberation War. The body was handed over to the family on Friday morning after autopsy. It was then taken to the family home at Moghbazar and kept in an air conditioned room for visitors, according to a news agency.
