Saturday, 25 October 2014

The Namaj-e-janaza of Ghulam Azam was held at Baitul Mukarram National Mosque in the city after Zohr prayers on Saturday. Ghulam Azam will be buried at his family graveyard at Moghbazar in the city, Azam’s son Abdullahil Amaan Azmi and his lawyer Tajul Islam said following his janaza (funeral prayers) in the afternoon. Abdullahil Aman Azmi conducted his father's janaza around 1:50pm. 'During his lifetime, my father consciously did not harm anyone. He had led a very simple life,' Azmi said before the janaza. 'But he was jailed in a false case,' Azmi, a former brigadier general, alleged. Earlier around 12 noon, the vehicle carrying the mortal remains of Azam, left his Moghbazar home. It reached Baitul Mukarram National Mosque around 1:15pm. The 92-year-old former Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer died on Thursday night at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) Hospital in Shahbagh while serving a 90-year jail term handed down by the International Crimes tribunal (ICT)-1 for his wartime offences, according to a news agency.
