The funeral prayer of former Jamaat-e-Islami ameer and war crimes convict Ghulam Azam will be held today (Saturday), report agencies.
His son Abdullahil Amaan Azmi Friday said he would lead the prayer at national mosque Baitul Mukarram after the Zuhr prayer.
The 92-year old former Jamaat chief died Thursday at the BSMMU while serving a 90-year sentence handed down last year for crimes against humanity.
After the prayer, the former Jamaat chief will be buried at his family graveyard at Moghbazar.
Earlier The body of Ghulam Azam, who died at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) Thursday night, was handed over to his family early Friday morning, reports UNB.
Hospital sources said the body Glulam Azam was handed over to his family around 7:40 am after a post-mortem.
The body of Ghulam Azam, who sentenced to 90 years' imprisonment unto death for masterminding atrocities during the Liberation War in 1971, was taken to his Moghbazar residence from the hospital.
Earlier on Thursday, Ghulam Azam's son Abdullahil Amaan Azmi told reporters that five out of their six brothers live abroad and they will decide two days later when their father will be buried.
Ghulam Azam's five sons who live abroad are Abdullahil Mamun Al-Azmi, Abdullahil Amin Azmi, Abdullahil Momen Azmi, Abdullahil Noman Al-Azmi and Abdullahil Salman Al-Azmi.
Ghulam Azam's body has been kept in a refrigerated ambulance at his residence. After Jum'a prayers, his body was shown to the leaders and workers of Jamaat-e-Islami for two hours.
