Ghulam Hussain takes over as NBR chief

The new chairman of the National Board of Revenue (NBR) and secretary to the Internal Resources Division Ghulam Hussain took charge Monday succeeding Dr Nasiruddin Ahmed who retires today (October 30).
Dr Nasiruddin Ahmed was in contractual service since 2009. His tenure of service was extended twice in the last three years.
Ghulam Hussain was commerce secretary before joining as NBR chief. Youth and Sports Secretary Mahbub Ahmed took up his job at commerce ministry.
Dr Nasiruddin handed over the responsibilities of NBR to Mr Hussain. The new chief held introductory meetings with all of the NBR officials and urged them to launch coordinated effort to achieve revenue collection target.
On October 15, the public administration ministry issued an order of administrative reshuffle and appointed commerce secretary as NBR chairman.
Dr Nasiruddin Ahmed took the charge of IRD and NBR in April, 2009. Dr Nasir was the secretary of Ministry of Housing and Public Works prior to his joining NBR. He is a member of the Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS) of 1981 batch.
Ghulam Hussain was in customs cadre and member of BCS 82 batch. When he was joint commissioner at Chittagong Customs House he was shifted to the ministry as Deputy Secretary.
