Girl rescued 3 months after her abduction

Police rescued a schoolgirl from Barolekha Upazila in Moulvibazar district on Friday afternoon, three months after her abduction from Jakiganj Upazila in Sylhet district. The rescued girl was identified as Afia Begum, 14, daughter of Kabir Uddin, a resident of Rasulpur village of Jakiganj. Earlier, one day after the incident, police arrested Sohel Ahmad, 22, son of Sahab Uddin, a resident of Maijkandi village of Jakiganj, in connection with the abduction. Police said Sohel and one of his associates picked up Afia from in front of her residence at Rasulpur village on January 19. The victims’ father Humayun Kabir Sarkar filed a case against Sohel with Jakiganj Police Station on Jan 26. Following secret information, a team of police led by Sub-inspector Yunus Ali of the police station rescued the girl from a house nearby Barolekha Bazar in the afternoon, according to a news agency.
