Girl tortured for giving testimony in rape case

A madrasah girl has been tortured by some young men at Sonapur village in Lakshmipur Sadar upazila as she gave testimony in a rape case. Police and family members said a group of youths, two of them named as Kiron and Taslim, intercepted the girl and tortured her at the village on Tuesday afternoon after picking her up while she was on her way to a relative’s house. The stalkers also pierced her hands and legs with a syringe. Local people rescued the girl and took her to Lakshmipur Sadar Hospital. Outrage, local people also detained Taslim, who is an accused in the rape case, after a hot chase and handed him over to police, sub-inspector of Lakshmipur Sadar Police Station Nazim Uddin said. On August 27, a group of identified local stalkers tortured and violated a Class-VI student of the same madrasa at Sonapur village after picking her up from Hasnabad village. Later, a case was filed against six people with Sadar Police Station where the tortured madrasa girl and classmates of the rape victim were made witnesses. The girl’s mother said the youths tortured her daughter on Tuesday afternoon as she gave testimony in the case, according to UNB.
