GIZ to implement project for displaced slum dwellers

RAJSHAHI, Sept 16: German Development Corporation (GIZ) has taken up a pilot project under Rajshahi City Corporation areas for development of soci-economic condition of the ultra poor and paupers who have been displaced from their homesteads and taken shelter at city streets and suburbs by the impact of climate change.
The project has been named as Urban Management of Internal Migration due to Climate Change.
Under this project, short and long term job oriented training and heath care facilities will be offered to the ultra poor and poor class of people and infrastructure will be built in city areas for providing shelter of those people.
There will be a positive soci-economic change of ultra poor and poor section of the people of the city under this project, informed project officials in Rajshahi.
Mathius Stamp, Programme Adviser of the Project informed, 4,000 to 5,000 ultra-poor and poor section of people will directly be benefited from the project.
He further informed, the survey of the project has already been started from early this year and is on its final stage. He hoped, the implementation of the programme will continue until 2017.
This morning, a two-member representative headed by GIZ Programme Adviser Mathius Stamp met with the Mayor( in charge) of Rajshahi City Corporation Nizam -ul-Azim at later's office and exchanged views with him.
The GIZ team apprised RCC Mayor( in charge) about over all activities of the project.
They informed, under the project, people who have been displaced and turned homeless due to impact of climate change and took shelter in city slums and streets will be rehabilitated in three phases.
The exchange of views was attended, among others, by Akhteruzzaman, Community Development, Poverty and Gender Adviser, Azahar Ali, Chef Executive Officer of RCC, Syeda Zebin Nissa Sultana, Secretary of RCC, Khandker Mahbubur Rahman, Chief Revenue Officer, Ashraful Haque, Chief Engineer and AFM Anjuman Ara Begum, Chief Medical Officer of RCC.
RCC Mayor( in charge ) thanked the representatives of GIZ for implementing such a welfare oriented project.
