Global Handwashing Day observed in dists

The Global Handwashing Day-2022 was observed in districts on Sunday, reports BSS.
In Gaibandha, marking the day, district administration and Department of Public Health Engineering (DPHE) jointly chalked out elaborate programmes.
In the morning around 10am a post-rally discussion was held at the conference room of the deputy commissioner (DC) here with executive engineer of DPHE Rezwan Hossain in the chair.
Deputy Commissioner Oliur Rahman addressed the meeting as the chief guest while assistant commissioner of the district administration Moumita Guha Eva moderated it.
This year's theme of the day is 'Unite for Universal Hand Hygiene'.
In Rangpur, officials and experts at a function have stressed ensuring hygienic sanitisation and maintaining cleanliness to lead a healthier life free from waterborne and other diseases.
The district administration with Department of Public Health Engineering (DPHE) jointly organised the campaign followed by a discussion on Saturday in observance of the National Sanitation Month October and World Hand Washing Day-2022.
Deputy Commissioner Md. Asif Ahasan launched the sanitation month and hand-washing campaign for school students in the function held at Gangachhara Government College ground in Gangachhara upazila town.
District and upazila level government officials and employees, students from different educational institutions, representatives of NGOs, civil society members and local elite participated in the programmes.
Presided over by Gangachhara Upazila Nirbahi officer Md. Ershad Uddin, Superintendent of Police Md. Ferdous Ali Chowdhury, Executive Engineer of DPHE for Rangpur Pankaj Kumar Saha, District Relief and Rehabilitation Officer Md. Motahar Hossain and Gangachhara upazila Chairman Md. Ruhul Amin, addressed as special guests.
Pankaj Kumar Saha said the sanitation campaign has been turned into a befitting social movement following massive steps taken by the government reducing the extent of recurrence of diarrhea, cholera, dysentery, hookworm and ringworm to the minimum.
"The success achieved in sanitation, pure drinking water, hygiene and health services and maintaining cleanliness in the country in the last 14 years is being lauded globally, also improving the rural life standard and health indexes," Saha added.
The speakers stressed the need for creating awareness among people, especially children and adolescents, on health, hygiene, sanitation, personal hygiene, washing of hands, using safe drinking water and maintaining a clean environment to lead a healthier life.
The chief guest urged all concerned to work with utmost sincerity in making students and common people aware of hand washing, sanitation, personal hygiene and safe drinking water to attain the sustainable development goals by 2030.
