Global textile players turning to BD, says BTMA chief

A four-day textile and garment machinery exhibition opens today (Wednesday) at Bangabandhu International Conference Center (BICC) in the city.
The 11th Dhaka International Textile & Garment Machinery Exhi-bition (DTG) will continue till February 15.
The annual fair is jointly organised by Bangladesh Textile Mills Association (BTMA), Chan Chao International Co., Ltd. Taiwan, and Yorkers Trade and Marketing Service Co, Ltd, Hong Kong.
The exhibition is an ideal platform to demonstrate new products and technologies, as well as meet with manufacturers, traders and buyers, and exploit business opportunities, Jahangir Alamin, president of BTMA said at a press conference.
He said textile and clothing industry has been playing an important role in the Bangladesh economy.
World-wide textile and RMG players are increasingly taking interest in Bangladesh in their investment planning, which shows a clear sign of tremendous potential of the country's clothing industry due to big domestic and overseas market, he said.
Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith will formally inaugurate the event highlighting the importance of textile industry for its contribution to the country's economy, he added.
Over 850 exhibitors including world's leading brands from 31 countries including, Australia, Austria, Bangladesh, Belgium, China, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Netherlands, Pakistan, Singapore, Spain, Sri Lanka, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, Thailand, Turkey, U.K, and U.S.A will take part in the expo. The categories of exhibits included spinning, weaving, knitting, dyeing, printing, finishing, sewing, iron & hanger system, CAD/CAM, testing and other related machinery, equipments and spare parts will display a wide variety of state-of-the-art textile and garment technology, machinery and parts.
