GMG Airlines, Bangl-adesh's largest private airline, has added Riyadh to its destinations by launching direct flight from Dhaka to Riyadh.
The inaugural flight Z5-0075 landed at the King Khalid International Airport, Riyadh Tuesday at 8:00am (Saudi Arabian time), officials said.
Bangladesh Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, M Fazlul Karim and high officials of the King Khalid International Airport were present at the time of arrival of GMG's maiden flight to Riyadh.
GMG deployed its Boeing 767-300 ER aircraft to operate non-stop flight from Dhaka to Riyadh thrice a week. GMG earlier entered the lucrative Saudi Arabian market by launching its flight to Jeddah in August last.
Adding Riyadh to its destinations is a part of GMG's expansion plan to become the most preferred airline in this region through offering warm hospitality to the passengers.
GMG Airlines Managing Director Shahab Sattar said: "Adding Riyadh is a big boost for the airline considering the large number of Bangladeshi migrant workers living in Saudi Arabia."
"GMG Airlines is expanding its global flight network to connect more destinations," said Mr Sattar.
GMG Airlines, the pioneer of airlines business in Bangladesh, has taken a substantial modernisation plan to accelerate its business growth. As a part of this plan GMG Airlines has changed its logo in last May with new promises, he said.
To serve the increasing customers' demand GMG Airlines has added new aircraft to its fleet, launched a new web portal and is gradually expanding the network of destinations linking the world with Bangladesh, he added.
As a part of this modernisation programme, GMG Airlines will soon manage electronic tickets via interfaces from a range of devices such as cellular phones, check-in kiosk, online check-in, boarding cards and baggage handling through Departure Control System, he said further.
GMG Airlines started operation on April 6, 1998. It began with domestic services and launched international flights in September 2004, with flights between Chittagong and Kolkata. Beximco Group, one of the largest industrial conglomerates in Bangladesh, acquired substantial shareholding of GMG Airlines last year to make its foray into the growing aviation sector.
