BNP secretary general Khondoker Delwar Hossain hoped that the caretaker administration would release party chairperson Khaleda Zia without creating any further obstacle, now that she secured bail in all the four cases against her, reports UNB.brWe hope you (the government) will not create any obstacle to jeopardize the release of Khaleda Zia. The people want her freedom, Khondoker Delwar Hossain told a meeting of the four-party alliance in the city's Diploma Engineers' Institution Tuesday.brThe alliance organised the meeting to press home a five-point demand, including release of the BNP chairperson and ex-premier, who had been behind bars since September 3 last year. brAs the news of bail in Gatco and Niko graft cases by the High Court reached the discussion meeting at about noon, a cheerful Delwar termed it a partial victory for his party and the alliance.brThe BNP secretary general, who held the helm at a time of crisis in the political arena following the 111 changeover, said he was hopeful that the government would go by the High Court order to free the detained former prime minister.brGatco and Niko cases were the last legal hurdles to the release of Khaleda, as she had earlier earned bail in two other cases. brIf the government appeals against the latest High Court orders and the Supreme Court move in favour of the state, only then the matter of Khaleda's release would get into trouble. Otherwise, there remains no legal bar for Khaleda to walk to freedom from jail, pending trial.brAt the alliance meeting Tuesday, Delwar expressed his gratitude to Allah for the bail in the cases and thanked the people and the party activists for backing the party's position in the struggle amid squeezes by the emergency regime.brAbout the dialogue with the Election Commission, which the BNP and its partners boycotted, Delwar said Why this dialogue with us For whatbrHe accused the EC of bypassing the BNP and its allies and other political parties in making electoral laws under the interim regime's reform recipe.brHe posed a further question When everything is complete, why do we need to talkbrHe demanded that the EC and the government hold next elections with previous electoral laws in place. brYou (the EC) say one thing publicly but you have other targets in your mind, he said. The people have understood your game plan. br
