Monday, 1 September 2008

BNP secretary general Khondoker Delwar Hossain said Sunday that the current unelected government must go as quickly as possible through transfer of power to an elected administration, reports UNB.brHold the national election immediately and hand over power to the elected government, Delwar told a discussion organised to mark the party's 30th founding anniversary in the city's Mohanogor Nattya Moncho.brHe said conspirators had staged the 111 changeover with a plan but their mission has failed and people have understood that.brDelwar demanded immediate release of BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia and her elder son Tarique Rahman.brRelease Tarique without further hesitation, he asked the government.brThe leader said Khaleda would be freed soon through legal course but she would never go abroad.brWe want national election first. If we can realise that demand, we will go to dialogue (with the government) and contest the election with a free Khaleda, he said.brWe have time and again said that we are an election-oriented party. But I can say we will not take part in any orchestrated election, he said.brBNP's senior leaders also spoke on the occasion.brThe party will place wreaths at the grave of late president Ziaur Rahman as part of the commemoration of the founding anniversary while it has planned another discussion on September 4.
