Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) personnel seized 553 pieces of goat rawhides foiling a smuggling bid on Putkhali border in Benapole early Saturday. Acting on secret information that huge goat hides were being smuggled to India, a team of BGB-23 conducted a drive in the bordering area and seized 553 pieces of goat rawhides early this morning, said commanding officer of BGB-23 Lieutenant Colonel A Rahim. However, BGB could not arrest anyone as the smugglers managed to flee. The market value of the goat hides is Tk 0.40 million, he added. The seized rawhides were deposited to the Benapole customs house. A case was filed in this connection, according to UNB.
