Going green with eco-friendly bags
Wednesday, 15 June 2022
There is hardly any day when we do not use plastic bags. They are all around our life. But we must be aware of their harmful effects. The main issue is that plastics do not undergo decomposition. They are a great menace to the ecosystem. If we start burning plastic bags, they emit toxic gases into the atmosphere. Plastic bags reduce soil fertility and thus have a bad impact on agricultural produce and yield. During rains, they can block our drainage system. It wreaks havoc on marine life. A number of marine species have been found consuming plastic pieces and succumbed to death.
The dumping yards have become breeding grounds of microorganisms that are sources of life-threatening diseases. Plastic bags can also lead to the multiplication of mosquitoes, which are the carriers of many diseases. They have proven to be a cause of a visible depletion of natural resources. The process of manufacturing plastics involves the emission of greenhouse gases. Hence plastic bags are a real cause of ecological imbalance.
To prevent these effects, we should make it a practice to use cloth, paper or jute bags and encourage others to do the same. Spread awareness about the ill effects of plastic bags and be enthusiastic to go green. Switch over to an eco-friendly lifestyle and embrace the three R's, namely reduce, re-use and re-cycle. Remember, change begins from you.
