Gold glut at Shah Amanat

In the biggest gold haul in recent times, customs officials seized 905 gold bars, weighing 105-kilogram (kg), from a Biman aero plane at Shah Amanat (RA) International Airport in Chittagong on Tuesday. Seven passengers of the Dhaka-bound flight from Dubai were arrested in this connection. Acting on secret information, customs officials at Shah Amanat searched the BG026 flight of Biman Bangladesh Airlines from Dubai and seized the gold worth 450.50 million from several bags kept beneath the seats of the seven passengers, said Moshiur Rahman Mandal, Assistant Commissioner of Chittagong Airport Customs Authority. Parvez Al-Zaman, Assistant Commissioner of Chittagong Airport Customs Authority, said today’s gold seizure was the biggest in recent times, according to UNB.
