Gold haul in Ctg airport

Over 70 gold bars worth Tk 8 million have been seized at Chittagong’s Shah Amanat International Airport. The airport's manager Wing Commander Nur-E-Alam told bdnews24.com on Wednesday that the gold was found hidden inside two vacuum cleaners. "Two passengers named Faisal Shikdar and Md Iskandar came to Chittagong on June 17 and 28 respectively from Sarjah by Air Arabia flights," he said, adding that the vacuum cleaners arrived by cargo services on Monday. The gadgets were seized on Wednesday when the two men came to claim them. “We found 76 gold bars inside the vacuum cleaners", Nur-E-Alam said. Meanwhile, in another incident, gold jewellery and mobile phone sets were confiscated from two passengers travelling from Oman and Dubai on Wednesday. Customs Deputy Commissioner Othelo Chowdhury told bdnews24.com, “We seized 390 grams of gold ornament worth Tk 700, 000 from a passenger named Sharifa Akhtar.” She landed in Chittagong by a Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight from Dubai. Forty-eight mobile phone sets were seized from one Aftabul Islam, who came from Oman on Wednesday.
