Gold recovered at Shahjalal

Customs officials recovered gold weighing 2.1 kilogram (kg) worth about Tk 10 million at Hazrat Shahjalal (RA) International Airport at Kurmitola in the city on Sunday night. The Customs intelligence men also detained a passenger, who arrived at the country’s main airport from Singapore, on charge of smuggling the gold into the country. Contacted, Assistant Commissioner (Customs) Israt Zahan Ruma said they had information that a consignment of gold was being carried by a passenger to Dhaka from Singapore on Saturday night. Based on the information, a team of the customs intelligence department conducted a drive and identified the passenger as Sujan, 22, at the boarding bridge just after he landed at the airport from an aircraft of Tiger Airlines from Singapore at about 11:00 pm and took him to the customs lounge, she said. After searching his luggage, the customs officials seized the gold from his possession, according to private TV channels.
