Customs officials at Hazrat Shah Amanat (RA) have discovered yet another gold haul in the country’s second largest airport. They seized 53 gold bars from a passenger on transit at the port city’s lone international airport on Monday. The gold was found on Anis Chowdhury, 34 and it weighed more than 6 kilograms, said Airport Customs Assistant Commissioner Moshiur Rahman Mondol. Anis hails from Boalkhali upazila of Chittagong district and had arrived at Hazrat Shah Amanat (RA) Airport in Potenga on a Biman flight from Dubai. The seized contraband is worth more than Tk 20.6 million, Mondol said. Monday’s haul was yet another case of the many in recent weeks involving passengers flying in with huge quantity of contraband gold. Last month over 105 kilograms of gold was seized at Shah Amanat. Today’s seizure of big gold haul at Shah Amanat came hours after the members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) recovered more than 74 kgs of gold jewelry and much cash after raiding a house in Cox’s Bazar’s Chokoria upazila. They were found from house, located near ‘Chakaria Girls High School’, said Commander of 17 BGB Lt Col Md Khalid Hasan. The actual value of the gold jewelry could not be ascertained immediately. The BGB team raided the house between 15 minutes past midnight and 5am following a tip off, according to bdnews24.com.
