Contraband gold has continued to make its way into Bangladesh through the country's two international airports in Dhaka and Chittagong. Customs officials at Hazrat Shahjalal (RA) International Airport in Kurmitola in Dhaka have seized 10 gold bars, each weighs 1kg, from a passenger flying into the country’s main airport from Singapore. ‘Kausar’, 38, was caught from near the airport’s Transit Lounge at 11 pm on Monday, said Armed Police Battalion (APBn) Assistant Commissioner Asma Ara Jahan. She said Kausar, who hails from Comilla district, landed at the airport on a Tiger Airways flight and soon aroused the Custom’s suspicion. ‘We searched his bag and found 10 gold bars. Each weighs 1kg.’ The air customs seized 2.1 kgs of gold on Sunday night from one ‘Sujon’ also from Comilla who was also returning from Singapore with Tiger Airways. A couple of days ago, the customs intelligence officials seized 105 gold bars at Hazrat Shahjalal airport from two passengers from Dubai. Besides, a big gold haul was unearthed at Hazrat Shah Amanat (RA) International Airport in Patenga in Chittagong last month, say agencies.
