Gold rush on at Shahjalal

Customs Intelligence officials seized 2.2 kilograms (kg) of gold and arrested a Biman passenger in this connection at Hazrat Shahjalal (RA) International Airport on Wednesday morning. The arrestee was identified as MA Rashid, 47, a resident of Comilla district. Sources at Customs Intelligence at Hazrat Shahjalal (RA) Int’l Airport said the Flight ‘BG 87’ of Biman Bangladesh Airlines from Malaysia landed at the airport around 6:00am. Acting on a tip-off, a team of the intelligence challenged Rashid when he was coming out of the airport through the green channel and recovered 1.5 kg gold from him. The team also recovered 700 grams of gold from four other passengers of the same flight. The market value of the gold was estimated at about Tk 11 million, according to UNB.
