Gold seized at Dhaka airport

Customs department officials on Thursday seized over 21 kgs of gold bars in two separate incidents at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka. A security guard of Civil Aviation Authorities, Bangladesh (CAAB), Saiful Islam was detained for his alleged involvement in the smuggling. Customs official Qamrul Hasan told bdnews24.com they recovered at least 100 abandoned gold bars at a boarding bridge of an Emirates Airways flight around 8pm. “These bars weigh at least 11.7 kgs and worth nearly Tk 50 million.” He said close on the heels of the seizure, Customs police detained Saiful with at least 10 kgs of gold bars from the airport premises.
