Gold seized at Shahjalal Int\\\'l Airport

Customs officials at Hazrat Shahjalal International airport recovered 51 gold bars weighing about 6kgs worth about Tk 2.5 crore on Wednesday. Wazed Ali, Assistant Commissioner (Customs) of the airport said acting on a tip-off, the customs officials challenged Joinal Abedin, 45, a cleaner of Bangladesh Biman at Boarding Bridge-6 area at about 12:00 pm. They had information that Joinal kept some gold bars hidden inside his shoes. He took the gold from inside an aircraft of Malaysian Airlines, he said. Searching the shoes, the customs officers recovered 40 gold bars weighing about 5 kgs worth about Tk 2 crore. A departmental case was filed in this connection, according to UNB.
