Gold worth Tk 10.5m seized at Shah Amanat

Thirty gold bars weighing 3.5 kilograms were seized at Hazrat Shah Amanat (RA) International Airport in Chittagong on Thursday. Sources said Air Customs officials recovered the gold bars worth Tk 10.5 million from the possessions of two cleaners of Bangladesh Biman at the airport in Patenga. The cleaners were arrested. They are Shuklal Das of Firinghibazar in the port city and Jibon Kumar Das of Mirsarai upazila of Chittagong district. Shuklal and Jibon went to clean the Biman’s Dhaka-bound flight - BG 048 - which was coming from Dubai and had a stopover at the airport at 10:30am. After cleaning the flight, the duo was passing the VIP Lounge of the airport. Suspecting their movement, the Civil Aviation department’s security officer challenged them and caught them. On information, Customs officials rushed in and recovered the gold bars from their possession searching them, the sources added, according to a news agency.
