Gold worth Tk 22m seized: 1 held

Customs intelligence officials seized 36 gold bars weighing 4.135 kilograms (kg) at Hazrat Shahjalal (R) International Airport in the city on Monday. A passenger of a flight of Biman Bangladesh Airlines has been arrested. He is Anisur Rahman, alias Anis Miah, 23. Director General of Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate Mainul Khan said Anis boarded on Dhaka-bound Flight ‘BG 048’ from Dubai at Hazrat Shah Amanat (R) International Airport in Chittagong in the morning. The flight arrived at Hazrat Shahjalal (R) International Airport around 11:00am. Being tipped off, a Customs intelligence team was following Anis and challenged him when he was crossing the domestic terminal of the airport. They searched his body and recovered the 36 gold bars from inside his shoes and under garments. The market value of the gold was around Tk 22 million, according to UNB.
